Currently Craving: Hazel Hill

Being an intern in Downtown Topeka has its pro's and con's... I'm not sure which list my current craving should go under. If you live in Topeka and haven't checked out Hazel Hill Chocolate yet, you're missing out. The shop is located off Kansas Ave. so it's just a few blocks away from my work. It is so tempting to stop by there when I'm having a hectic day!

The shop is owned by a husband and wife. It is named after Hazel Hill, the wife's grandmother.  Nick, the husband, is the third generation chocolatier and in keeping with traditions, they use only the finest ingredients, chocolate, fresh cream and butter, to produce handmade treats that explode with flavor. It is to die for!

Here are some pictures to make your mouth water.

For Top City Thurday next week, Corey promised a date night to Hazel Hill to get an apple. I'm so excited!

Hazel Hill's truffles are absolutely scrumptious! My favorite is the Iced Cappuccino Truffle.

For those of you who don't live in Topeka... Good news you can order online! Just go to the Hazel Hill Chocolate website! Enjoy.

Currently Craving: Summer nail polish colors

Most people when it comes to summer get excited for laying out by the pool, BBQ's, and relaxing. I, on the other hand, get excited to whip out the fun, flirty nail polish colors. Don't get me wrong, I love all those other things as well... But sometimes it's just so refreshing to have freshly painted nails and tootsies. Here are a few of my favorite color pairing for summer time fun.

1. Simple and Classic

Perfect color scheme if you don't want to draw to much attention to your nails, but still have them look clean and polished. Check out this website to see what nude color you should wear with your skin color. Nude Nail Polish Guide.

2. Firey Reds
Need something that pops? Go with a bold, sexy red. I love having red on my toe nails. Personally, I think red looks best on short/medium length nails. Fun fact...the use of red nail polish has been registered as early as the 15th century, when it was told
that members of the Ming dynasty's royalty used red and black to paint their nails

3. Summer Corals

My top pick for summer is always a shade of coral. The color isn't has girly as a pink, but not as dramatic as a red. I also think it makes my tan look darker... I might be imaging things though. :)

4. Ocean Blues

I'm not a big fan of having cool color shades on my nails or toes... That being said, I do like how it looks on other people.  The bright blues make me want to jump into a nice cool pool.

5. Sunshine Yellow's

Again... Not my favorite for myself. Some people are able to pull it off and it looks great. I'll keep the yellow's for my summer tops and dresses.

Overall, I think I'm going to stick with the nudes, reds, and corals. While interning I try to keep my nails clean and professional looking. However, I tend to use the brighter colors on my toenails. Check out Refinery29 to see more tips on what shades are hot for summer. What are your favorite shades to keep you looking cool by the pool?

My secret to staying organized/sane

So lately my life as been extremely hectic. I just started a new internship, planning a bridal shower, and am president of an organization. Besides not blogging as much as I would like to, my life has been going pretty smoothly. However, I can not take credit for this unhectic, hecticness. The credit goes to Evernote

I found this handy little application after a PR friend tweeted about it. I am all for anything that helps me stay on top of things, so I checked it out. Evernote allows you to clip things, make note of things, and it syncs on your computer, phone, on the web... pretty much everywhere. I LOVE it!

Yesterday I started putting the final touches on my friends wedding shower. I was trying to keep track of all the games I found on the internet. With Evernote, all I had to do to save it into my wedding notebook was click the Evernote icon, and boom it was saved directly on my computer.

You can also create to-do lists as well, which is amazing. It seems like I have a never ending to-do list at my internship.

This app is also awesome for typing out notes, or even documents. In Evernote you create notebooks, so everything stays together. You can email it directly to yourself or print it out. I'm pretty sure Evernote is the only reason I have my sanity right now. What's your secret  to keeping organized?

Summer where art thou?

Summer, oh summer where are you? Oh, you are only one final away. On Wednesday I have my last final and am officially halfway done with my junior year. Yes, that is correct. In December I will be going into my senior year. Holy cow. That is crazy. Anyways, besides me going into a mini-panic attack as I am writing this, I was about to make my goals/to do list for this summer. Don't worry it's not long...

1. Have a successful internship. My summer's stress level/happiness depends on this little number. Last week I received the chance to intern as an event planner at Downtown Topeka Inc. I will be promoting and planning events that happen in the Downtown Topeka area. I am super excited for this experience!

Every Friday I will blog about what has happened throughout the week. Not that you all care... However, I'm required to keep a journal, so what better way to do that than via blogging!

2. Finish my weight loss project. For the past year I have been trying to lose weight and become healthier. Well.... I am 8ish-10ish, depending on the day, pounds away from my goal. I WILL MAKE IT THIS SUMMER! Besides planning my little heart out at the internship, my only other plan is to workout and eat healthier.

3. Run a 5K. This goes along with my second goal, only a little more in-depth. An old friend from The Domestic Wannabe has been blogging about a program she used called C25K. She just finished a 5K on Mother's Day, woot woot! The program is 9 weeks long and seems pretty doable. I'm a little nervous because I have never really ran for fun... but I will do this.

4.  Catch up with an old friend. Whenever I go back home I always try to hang out with old friends from high school. Every year it gets harder and harder to keep in-touch. However, my best friend Nat and I always seem to be able to pick up right where we left off. I'm looking forward to hearing about her adventures in Lawrence.

Our first of many outings together sophomore year.

Four years later we're still besties. This is us last summer in Lawrence.

I can't wait to see what this summer as in store for me. I feel like it is going to be very busy, but beneficial to my career. Hopefully, I'll be able to take time to catch up with friends, catch some rays and enjoy life. What do you have planned for this summer?
